Our story

Rising was founded by Karen Kargar in 2019. As one of the original global locals, Karen pioneered international business in Berlin in the 1990s. Living the fully integrated expat experience showed her that wherever you are in the world, people always need people. Rising believes that it is the transformative power of human connection that changes the world.

Karen Kargar

CEO & Founder

Raised in the US, Karen moved to Europe, living in Barcelona before settling in Berlin in 1994. She worked at Deutsche Welle TV and a political PR agency before starting her own communications agency with clients such as Sony Ericsson, BMW and Onitsuka Tiger. In 2013, she received her Executive Master’s degree with a thesis on integrating international talent into local labor markets. After cofounding an executive search firm, Karen consulted for local startups, international companies and the city of Berlin before founding Rising in November 2019.

Manon Roux

After working on digital comms for the European Parliament in France during the 2014 elections, she earned her MA in political communication and moved to Berlin in 2015. This led her to the local tech scene, and she grew a strong interest in the industry. After working freelance, she became Rising’s founding employee in early 2020.
